Upcoming Events
Expat in Denmark Sankt Hans Aften Socials 2011 - June
This month the socials have a special twist. In June Sankt Hans Aften (Sct. John's Eve) is celebrated across the country, and we thought we'd join in the fun.
Sankt Hans Eve is a solstice celebration, celebrated on June 23rd. It has been celebrated since the times of the Vikings, by visiting healing water wells and making a large bonfire to ward away evil spirits. Today, the water well tradition is gone, however bonfires line the coasts and brighten the parks of Denmark, while people sing the midsummer hymn, and enjoy themselves on a lovely summer night.
For more information about Sankt Hans, please go to our website, by clicking here.
The Expat in Denmark Sankt Hans socials are here:
Copenhagen - Kulturkajen Docken
June 23rd, from 7:00 pm More information and registration here.
Aalborg - Café Vi2
June 23rd, from 5:30 pm More information and registration here.
Other Sankt Hans events may be found in our calendar online,
if your town is not represented, contact your municipality to find out where a bonfire will be near you. There will be one for certain!

Expat in Denmark Lean & Six Sigma Network Seminar
Professional networking is just as important as social networking to your career success in Denmark. We are keen to give you, our members, the chance to meet other Expats and Danes who are from a similar profession / field of expertise as yourself, and provide a forum where you can both learn something about an area of professional interest and expand your professional network.
At Expat in Denmark we are fortunate to have many talented members, and one of them, Mr. Amitatabh Saxena, has been so kind as to share some of his wisdom with us for this thematic Expat in Denmark event "Lean & Six Sigma awareness seminar".
During the seminar Mr. Saxena will touch upon what Lean and Six Sigma is, and how certification may help you in your carreer.
The seminar gives a brief overview of Lean and Six Sigma, the tools and techniques involved in doing six sigma projects, and the methodology of improving process to near perfection.
The event will take place on June 22nd at the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel To learn more about the seminar and the speaker, and to sign up for the event, please click here.

Expat Dinner - with Minister of Integration Søren Pind
Last Sunday, June 5th was Grundlovsdag, and our most recent Expat Dinner event. In conjunction with the event, we invited Minster of Integration, Søren Pind to join some members of Expat in Denmark along some Danes who work closely with expat issues to join us for an Expat Dinner at Copenhagen Marriot Hotel.
Representing the Danes were Charlotte Mark of Microsoft Development Centre, Søren Rahbek of Danske Bank, Torben Møller-Hansen of Foreningen Nydansker, Jesper Nymark of the Copenhagen Post and Jens Klarskov of Dansk Erhverv.
Representing expats, as it were, were Shahar Silbershatz, Luis Martinez, Agnieszka Lok, Nina Dadalauri, William Chiang and Isabelle Valentine.
A lively evening of discussion and debate ensued, and no one left without having changed their opinion about one aspect or another, and each other: exactly the point of Expat Dinners!
We hope those of you who took part in other Expat Dinners events had a great evening. We're already looking forward to the next event in Ooctober.
Pictures from the Expat Dinners can be seen here

CPHX: "What makes a livable city_" at DAC (June-10, Copenhagen)
Copenhagen X presents a major exhibition at the Danish Architecture Center this summer provides an insight into the huge changes that have taken place in Copenhagen in the past ten years - from the massive urban development programme at Ørestad to new cultural landmarks and green urban spaces in the old working-class areas. For more information, please click here.
EPRU Seminar: The Financial Labor Supply Accelerator (June-14, Copenhagen)
When minimum down payments for durable purchases constrain a household's debt, a persistent wage increase generates a liquidity shortage. This limits the income effect, so hours worked grow. This is the nancial labor supply accelerator, which links labor supply to collateralized household borrowing. The mechanism generates a positive comovement of labor supply and household debt, whose strength depends positively on the minimum down-payment rate. Its potential macroeconomic importance comes from these labor supply uctuations' procyclicality. For more information, please click here.
NB: If you would like your organisations events to appear in our calendar, please send us a mail with details.

Cph Volunteers - BMX and Performance Arts events
Being a volunteer is giving, not only to the person receiving the help, but also to the volunteer him/herself.
Cph Volunteers is an Copenhagen based orginisation where volunteers run and manage a large number of large events and activites in and around Copenhagen.
We think it's a great way to get involved with community activites,
and at the same time expand your network among Danes and other expats.
In May, CPH Volunteers were thrilled to get the help of several Expat in Denmark members, and so they've invited you back for another round of exitement.
This time it's for the BMX World Championship in July and the Metropolis Biennale in August. To read more information about the events and how to join in the fun, please click here.

4th of July in Rebild Over the years
Every year on July 4th, the American Independence Day is celebrated in the hills of Rebild, near Aalborg in Jutland. Here people gather for a lovely day filled with speeches, music and entertainment.
The fine tradition that in 2012 will celebrate its centenary, has been captured through the last 15 years by photographer Jorgen Nøhr, and his pictures have now been gathered at an exibition in Copenhagen that
opens June 16.
Come have a look at the festivities, and learn more about the celebration. The official opening of the exhibition will be conducted by the American Ambassador, Laurie S. Fulton.
