Welcome to 196 new members of Expat in Denmark this month.
Dear Members

Here at Expat in Denmark we've just about finished pulling our hair out. Just in case you missed it, the warmest of welcomes to Expats from our new Minister of Integration.

Whilst it's been stated ad infinitum by now, Denmark faces an enormous challenge to attract and retain qualified foreign labour. It's already a tough enough task that throwing oil on the fire is perhaps not the best strategy.

Many Expats come to Denmark out of love (for their partner) but an increasing number choose Denmark over other destinations. Would you chose Denmark over, say, Germany, if you were expected to assimilate during your 4 year stay? No, thought not. We look forward to - and hope for - a balanced tone in this debate.

On the bright side of life spring is finally rearing its head so we can already start looking forward to getting outdoors and socialising without the need for thermal underwear! Join us then for one of the social events we have coming up in Copenhagen, Odense and Aalborg (see below.)

As we continue focussing on Expats meeting Danes, join us for the third year of Global Cross Match on 31st March in Copenhagen.

And on that Dane-Expat feel, I''ll finish by saying a huge  thank you to the 500 people who took part in Expat Dinners on 3rd March. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Best regards, Craig Till, Expat in Denmark

March 31 2011

Expat in Denmark and Hjemvendte.dk invites you to participate in this speed networking event, designed to create networks between Danes and Expats.

Now in its third year, Global Cross Match is an event which brings 100 people together for one evening of networking and experience sharing between Expats in Denmark and Danes, many of whom have themselves have lived abroad - 're-pats.'

It is a great opportunity to expand your social  and professional network, and to meet open-minded expats and Danes alike.

Programme:

Danish-English author Robin Wildt Hansen, member of Hjemvendte, will make an opening presentation about his personal experiences of living and working overseas and his relationship to Denmark.

We'll guide you through meeting Danes and Expats alike through a one-hour session, in a speed networking format.

Thereafter there is plenty of time for further networking with the Danes and Expats you have met in the fantastic surroundings at Toldboden overlooking the Copenhagen Harbour.

Children's Fair 2011 Survey

Spare time activities are fun. For adults and children alike, being a member of a club can provide one with a great network and lifelong friends.

Sometimes figuring out which clubs to join, and how to do so, may be diffucult. Especially if you find yourself new to a country.

The Copenhagen Post and Spousecare are hosting a Children's Fair in Copenhagen planned for summer 2011 to introduce clubs and associations to the international community as well as bring together Danish and International families. Their target demographic is from maternity to children 13 years of age.

To help the organizers better understand your experiences when joining clubs for you and your children, we would like to encourage you to contribute by completing their survey.

The World's Most Famous Dishwasher, March 21st

If there was ever an Expat success story, this would be it. When Mr. Enan Galely first came to Denmark from Egypt he started out as a dishwasher. Much has happened since then, and Mr. Galely now owns his own chain of hotels in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Hear his fascinating story when Copenhagen International Rotary Club presents this event at Copenhagen Marriott Hotel. For more information click here
