August in Denmark 
 

Not only does the month of August means going back to school and work for most it is also a month where a lot of sensory experiences take place. No matter which region you find yourself in, in Denmark there is definitely something to experience.

 

Copenhagen Pride:

 A celebration of personality with colours and pride

 From the 17th – 21st August, the city of Copenhagen will once again be the center of attention and attraction as it hosts the colourful Copenhagen Gay Pride festival.

The festival comprises of a number of events held throughout the city, where the City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) and the Main Shopping Street (Strøget) are transformed into the locations of events like exhibitions, concerts and many more during the 4-day festival. The H. C. Ørsted Park also hosts an open Air Film event during the festival, which is free of charge.

For the highlight of the festival don’t miss the events that will be held on Saturday the 20th of August, where the Pride Parade leaves the City Hall Square at 1:00pm and which is then followed by the  Copenhagen Pride Show with performances from artists like Joey Moe, Nadia and many more.

For the 6th time the city of Copenhagen hosts the culinary art festival. The 10-day festival, from the 19th -28th of August, offers a wide range of “tasting” experiences in Nordic as well as international foods.

As a people’s festival, the festival offers something for every taste and activities for the family as well. The focus on quality happens to be idea behind the festival and as the Nordic kitchen has, in recent years, been rediscovered and modernized emphasis is laid on the use of excellent local products.

So if you want to see some of Copenhagen’s brilliant chefs, cooking schools and food artists at work and join in a 10-day celebration of the Nordic cuisine then don’t miss Copenhagen cooking this August.   

 

 Aarhus Festival:

   Can you piece out our imperfections with your thoughts?

As the famous writer puts it can you see the beauty in imperfections or abnormalities?

From firday the 26th of August to the 4th of September Aarhus invites to one of the largest cultural events, the Aarhus Festival 2011, in the Jutland regions.

The 10-day festival includes art and entertainment events in the city of Aarhus, where streets, alleys, clubs, galleries and museums will be filled with interesting activities as well as performances with both local and foreign artists.

As this year’s theme “Beautiful Mistakes” the festival aims to find the abnormalities, imperfection and irregularities in all shapes and sizes. With this the festival wishes to make a collection of the “imperfections” in the world and appreciate the beauty of these.

One of the main attractions will be the transformation of one of the city squares “Bispertorvet” into Rebel town, which is to represent a small rebellious art and music town side, the programme for this year’s event consist of more than 1000 events. Odense Flower Festival:

 Do you remember your Nordic Mythology? Are you interested I seeing the beautiful Nordic goddesses and scary villains reinvented from flowers?

If you happen to find yourself on the Island of Funen, then don’t miss out on the annual Flower Festival in the city of Odense, the birth place of the famous writer H.C. Andersen. From the 17th -21st August 2011 you can experience an array of different types and species of flowers creatively modeled into ancient Nordic figures as the theme for this year is “Nordic Mythology”. 

The 5-day festival presents colourful, magical and dramatic exhibitions as well as mini- courses on activities like floral decoration and many more.  

 

 Odense Film Festival – OFF 2011

 Another great event for film lovers

Odense, for the 26th time hosts the Odense International Film Festival – OFF 2011, the festival which focuses on short films recognizes the creativity of individual amateurs as well as professional film makers by awarding the most courageous and adventurous productions. The festival also presents opportunities for thought-provoking experiences, debates, wo0rkshops, concerts and much more.

OFF 2011, will again give film enthusiasts the opportunity to experience short films, some of which might never hit the big screens free of charge.

 

 Aalborg in red

A symbol of love celebrations and an appetite for love, “Aalborg in Red” sets the scene for some eventful and exciting days in the city of Aalborg from the 31st of August to the 3rd of September 2011.

The festival is setting the celebration of life in focus where days will be filled with activities from the sports, environmental, fashion and musical genres.
