Danish Christmas for Expats  
In the coming days and weeks you can experience and enjoy the Christmas festivities in the various regions in Denmark. Here is a list of what might be of interest:

Christmas Market – 26th and 27th November, Aalborghus Slot

Experience a genuine Christmas market set in the historic ambience of Aalborg’s castle. Lion’s Club and Aalborg Budolfi organize this market which is open 10am-4pm Saturday and 11am-4pm Sunday.

 

Christmas at the manor “Bratskov” – 26th and 27th November, 11am-5pm

Slightly further afield in Brovst (Herregården Bratskov, Fredensdal 8, Brovst), the manor will be filled with exciting activities and stalls to get you into your Christmas spirit and inspire your Christmas shopping. Santa, seasonal refreshments, stalls filled with gnomes, decorations, beeswax candles, willow baskets, biscuits, free-range beef, sheep’s fleeces, slippers and much, much more. The fair is organized by Polske Børn

Himmerland/Loppebiksen Øland in support of deprived children in Poland. Bus no. 70 or X-bus 970X gets you within a 10min. walk to the manor (see www.rejseplanen.dk).

Santa arrives in Aalborg – Saturday 26th November, 11am. The real and bona fide Santa arrives by ship straight from Greenland to Aalborg Harbour on Saturday. Join the city’s mayor for a warm welcome to Santa at “Elbjørnen”. On the same afternoon at 3pm, the city’s Christmas tree, which is a gift from Aalborg’s twin town of Frederiksstad in Norway, will be lit on Nytorv.

Christmas Gospel – Thursday 1st December 2011, 7pm Adoro Gospel Choir has been practicing since September and they’re now ready to give their Christmas concert in Bethelkirken, Niels Ebbesens Gade 14, Aalborg. The choir will kick-start your Christmas and raise your spirits by singing a happy range of choice Christmas gospel and carols in Danish as well as English. The concert is followed by coffee and ‘æbleskiver’. See here

35th Christmas Stamp March (Julemærkemarch) - Sunday 4th December, 09-11am. Take your friends and family on a brisk 5K or 10K walk for charity. The annual Jule-mærkemarch starts at Vester Mariendal Skole og Undervisningscenter, Stjernevej 1-5, Aalborg SV. Prices are DKK 55 or 25 and the proceeds go towards the Danish Ju-lemærkehjem, which offer help for children suffering with issues such as obesity and bullying. Arranged by Fodslaw-Aalborg. See here
